New Date: Friday April 30th, Saturday May 1st & Sunday May 2nd, 2021.
G'day Athletes,
The Jovia Long Island Marathon is a large scale event that will attract over 5000 athletes from across the Country and Internationally. The weekend events include a sports and fitness expo, a food truck festival with live music, as well as the Full and Half marathon, 10K, 5K, and kids 1k races. Last years race was a great success with over 5,000 registered athletes and well over 10,000 people visiting the park & festivals over the course of the 3 days.
Currently our registration has athletes from 68 different US County's, 18 US States & 5 Countries. At this point in time, NY State COVID-19 Guidelines do not include a plan for reopening large scale events. Today, restrictions have events capped at just 50 people and under. After reviewing the State guidelines with many County Officials and talking with members of our community, a decision has been made that The Jovia Long Island Marathon to postpone the October 2020 race to the first weekend of May in 2021.
Please understand that this was an extremely difficult decision. However, the health and safety of all race participants, our community, our essential staff and employees is of utmost importance. All registered runners will be offered the opportunity to either complete the 2020 race virtually, or have their entry transferred to the new 2021 race date or defer their entry to 2022. Those athletes that are happy to transfer to the race dates (Friday April 30th, Saturday May 1st & Sunday May 2nd, 2021) do not need to do anything. You will be automatically transferred to the new date and will remain in the original race distance you registered for. Those races include the 35.5 mile Challenge, the 22.4 Mile Challenge, The Full 26.2 mile marathon, the 13.1 Mile Half Marathon, the 10k Run, the 5k Run and the 1k Just for Fun. Athletes who want to defer to 2022 or do the race Virtually this year need to select one of those options below.
The first Long Island Marathon was run in 1970 as The Earth Day Marathon. Originally the race consisted of loops around Roosevelt Raceway and Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York. The event was renamed the Long Island Marathon in 1978 and a half marathon was added in 1984. We look forward to continuing the rich history of this race and welcoming all the athletes back in 2021 and beyond. #iRUNthisISLAND
Cheers,
The TEAM at RaceAwesome.
